A long-range sniper rifle can be mechanically excellent and still cost the shooter energy before the first round is fired. While heavier weight improves precision from a fixed position, there is a limit to the weight the operator can bear before mobility begins to work against the mission.

That’s the balance we built the M300 Praetorian around. It delivers CheyTac’s 2,500+ yard effective range on a platform that weighs 18 pounds empty, giving shooters a lighter alternative to the M200 Intervention® without sacrificing ELR capability.

The Design Philosophy Behind The M300 Praetorian

The M300 Praetorian wasn’t designed to act as a stripped-down M200 Intervention®. The precision long-range rifle is a distinct CheyTac platform built around the question of how to preserve ELR performance while removing enough weight from the rifle system to improve mobility.

The foundation is the CheyTac® USA Magnum Action with a 40 MOA base. That action keeps the M300 in CheyTac’s ELR family rather than moving the rifle into a smaller precision-rifle category.

We trimmed weight by rethinking the rifle’s architecture. The M300 comes standard with a 29-inch fluted barrel, shaving material from the profile but keeping the length needed for .408 CheyTac® and .375 CheyTac® chamberings.

You can also get the M300 with a McMillan composite stock. This gives the rifle a more field-friendly structure compared to the heavier, metal-dominated system on the M200 Intervention®.

We left out the M200’s integrated bipod and five-position adjustable buttstock with monopod. Instead, the M300 uses a Picatinny rail for an optional bipod, so you can pick the support gear that fits your mission.

The shooter still gets a CheyTac magnum action, CheyTac chamberings, and the stated 2,500+ yard effective range, but in a platform that is significantly easier to move before the shooting starts. This keeps the user more mobile while retaining ELR performance.

Chambered For CheyTac ELR Performance

The M300 Praetorian still comes chambered in .408 CheyTac® and .375 CheyTac®. The .408 CheyTac® configuration uses a 29-inch fluted barrel with a 1:10 twist. This chambering remains closely associated with CheyTac’s original extreme-range system design and the retained-energy side of the ELR discussion.

The .375 CheyTac® configuration uses a 29-inch fluted barrel with a 1:9.5 twist. It is often favored by ELR shooters who want a flatter trajectory and reduced recoil compared with .408 CheyTac®.

The M300 uses a seven-round detachable box magazine, keeping the rifle practical for field and competition use without adding unnecessary bulk. The barrel and chambering choices point to the same design idea, removing weight from the rifle architecture rather than moving away from the ELR ballistic category.

Who The M300 Praetorian Was Built For

The M300 Praetorian is built for professional users who need extreme-distance capability in a rifle that’s practical to move. For military or law enforcement marksmen, the lightweight sniper rifle has to get to the position before its range matters.

A lighter ELR platform changes what a team is willing to carry. Dropping from a 31-pound rifle to 18 pounds before optics and accessories gives you more room for the rest of your mission load.
